Corporate Director, System Chaplaincy Services
Jon A. Overvold, M.Div, BCC, is the Corporate Director of System Chaplaincy Services for Northwell Health. Since his appointment in 2012 he has been leading the effort to build a service line for chaplaincy services across this 21-hospital health system in the New York Metropolitan area. Previously, he was on staff of HealthCare Chaplaincy and served as founding director of Pastoral Care and Education at North Shore University Hospital on Long Island. He became a board certified Chaplain in 1999 and holds 24 years experience in healthcare chaplaincy. Jon earned a B.A. in History from Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Washington and received his Master of Divinity from Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota. He served for six years as Chair of the Commission on Quality in Pastoral Services, for the Association of Professional Chaplains and was the state representative for New York in the APC. As chair of the Quality Commission he co-chaired the task force that wrote “Standards of Practice for Professional Chaplains in Acute Care Settings.” He has published several articles and one book chapter on Quality in Professional Spiritual and Pastoral Care: A Practical Clergy and Chaplain's Handbook. A Day in the Life of a Chaplain
