Residency in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Northwell Health

Residency in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Northwell Health

About us

The plastic and reconstructive surgery residency program at Northwell Health is a six-year integrated training program. Each year, two residents are selected for this exclusive program that affords residents exposure to the full spectrum of aesthetic surgery and reconstructive surgery.

Plastic surgery residents rotate through the tertiary hospitals in the health system. These include Long Island Jewish Medical Center, North Shore University Hospital, Cohen Children’s Medical Center, Staten Island University Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital and the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital (MEETH). The diversity in the training sites provides broad exposure to faculty, patients and clinical scenarios.

The plastic surgery residents are integrated into plastic surgery from the first year with rotations on the plastic surgery service.  Elective time is spent during the first three years in core rotations such as anesthesia, dermatology, general surgery, oral surgery, otolaryngology, pediatric surgery and vascular surgery. The last  three years include plastic surgery specialty training. Trainees work closely with our internationally renowned surgeons in specialties such as pediatric craniofacial surgery, head and neck cancer reconstruction, facial and body aesthetic surgery, breast aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, and hand surgery.

All residents participate in some form of clinical or basic science research. Peer-review publication and national presentations are supported and encouraged. Residents are also welcomed to participate in research at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, the research arm of the health system.
