Trainees must have completed an ACGME-accredited internship prior to starting the diagnostic radiology residency training program.

Required documents

Essential application information includes:
  • Universal application
  • Curriculum vitae
  • USMLE or COMLEX transcript
  • Medical school transcript
  • MSPE
  • Personal statement
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation, preferably two from the radiology department

Interview process

Interviews occur in late October thru end of January, usually on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
Prior to the day of interview, prospective residents will receive a confirmation e-mail letting them know where and when to report.  The interview day starts at 8:00 a.m. with a breakfast and some time with the residents.
Interviewees will receive a name badge, institution and program information folder and a schedule of the day.  The program director, Dr. Lawrence P. Davis, meets with all the applicants for an hour long comprehensive overview of the residency with question and answer session.  This is followed by a total of three 20-minute interviews with the program director or associate, an attending and a resident.
A resident will lead a tour of the interview site and then applicants will take a shuttle to a pizza lunch at the second site. The informal lunch is with residents and attendings in the department. Afterward, there is conference and another resident lead tour.
We are anxious to have applicants spend time with residents and be able to ask as many questions as they have of everyone. Since residents spend their time between North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, applicants see both sites.  We return via shuttle, validate the applicant’s parking ticket for the visitor garage and the day is over at approximately 3:00 p.m.
