Fellowship in Advanced Female Pelvic Surgery at Southside Hospital

Fellowship in Advanced Female Pelvic Surgery at Southside Hospital

Overview

The Fellowship in Advanced Female Pelvic Surgery is a one year educational experience for graduates of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-approved OB/GYN residency who would like additional training in surgical technique and perioperative care. Based at Southside and Huntington Hospitals, the training program allows the fellow the opportunity to develop his or her laparoscopic, robotic (including single incision), open and vaginal surgical skills.

The fellow actively participates in gynecologic oncology, urogynecology and general gynecology cases. The fellow is also responsible for the inpatient care of our gynecologic oncology service and will be trained in SICU management as well as the management of complex postoperative clinical situations and complications.

Created in 2015, the fellowship includes several days each week of operating, time in the outpatient office setting, and academic time for research and development of a published manuscript. Fellows can expect to first assist on hundreds of surgical cases over the course of 12 months and to be comfortable with retroperitoneal dissections both through open and laparoscopic/robotic modalities.
