Northwell Health is committed to delivering the highest quality healthcare possible. Providing exemplary care would not be possible without the backbone of the health system – our nursing staff.
As the largest employer of nurses on Long island and one of the largest healthcare systems in the United States, Northwell Health is able to offer nurses a range of opportunities to learn, excel and advance. Whether your goal is to advance clinical skills, participate in research, explore new specialty areas or take part in our health initiatives, at Northwell Health you will find numerous resources.
The Institute for Nursing offers a state-of-the-art orientation program for advanced practice nurses, registered nurses and nursing support personnel. The program assures that all newly hired clinicians have a strong foundation upon which to build a successful career at Northwell Health. We offer our newest team members the opportunity to learn about the mission, vision and values of our health system.
In recognition of the ever-changing nature of healthcare, the Institute for Nursing provides a number of ways for nurses and health professionals to keep current. A variety of learning approaches are used such as classes, e-learning modules and team-based inter-professional simulation activities. Courses offered cover a wide array of clinical topics.
Well-prepared leaders are vital to achieving excellence. Nurse managers and nurses aspiring to leadership positions can avail themselves of the Leadership Basics program. This highly interactive course brings together new and potential leaders from across the health system.
There are times when individualized assessment and education are needed. The institute offers this specialized service to all system facilities on an appointment basis. Customized educational programs are designed and implemented with system hospitals to address their specific needs and goals.
The Institute for Nursing is committed to providing nurses and employees who aspire to become nurses with the educational support they need. Northwell Health has excellent relationships with many schools of nursing, both locally and nationally. We have partnered with these schools to offer a variety of innovative programs such as the summer Nurse Extern program and on-site classes for associate, bachelors and masters degree students.
The nursing profession is evolving to a scientific foundation for clinical practice. The Institute for Nursing is helping to propel the field of nursing research through our nursing research program. With this program Northwell Health hopes to develop me plans of care to prevent disease and disability, manage symptoms of illness and enhance end-of-life care.
