Physician Administrative Fellowship Program
Northwell Health and the Physician Leadership Institute are proud to announce the start of a Physician Administrative Fellowship Program in July 2015.
Physician leadership is crucial for a vibrant health system such as ours. The one-year Physician Administrative Fellowship Program is designed to empower young physicians to take on administrative leadership roles within the health system while meeting the organization’s mission of providing outstanding patient care within our community.
Fellows will be provided with a valuable opportunity to participate in a yearlong hands-on administrative experience which will impart the fundamental, practical knowledge of the ever changing healthcare environment.
The chosen participants will be rotating through the Northwell Health’s various organizational and operational settings ensuring that they are afforded exposure to our organization’s three primary components: hospital based patient care, ambulatory services, and our corporate operations which will include exposure to joint ventures, managed care, and insurance entities. In addition to gaining practical leadership skills which augment their talent as physicians, fellows will have a chance to interact with the health system’s senior leadership and benefit from physician executive mentoring.
The program also allows participants to continue pursuing their clinical expertise by working part-time in one of our health system’s outpatient settings during the fellowship program. Providing clinical care to our patients and developing clinical credibility will not only help the fellows to better assess the ongoing needs of our community, but also hasten the enhancement of patient and care providers experiences within our organization.
True clinical leadership requires skills to combine clinical excellence with the ability to fully understand and integrate the different components of our vast health system. The fellowship program is designed to help develop the leadership skills necessary to succeed in a changing healthcare landscape and maintain the Northwell Health as a national healthcare leader.
Two fellows were selected for the 2015-2016 fellowship program from an extensive pool of applicants. Both fellows demonstrate continued interest in an administrative career as well as their outstanding clinical expertise.
