About our sports medicine program
Sports injuries tend to be serious because of the amount of force and energy exerted at the time of impact. Because athletes are used to feeling aches, pains and other discomforts, they often let their injuries go untreated for longer than they should. But it's important to seek treatment as soon as possible after an injury, preferably from an expert who focuses on conditions and treatments specific to athletes.
When you're with us, you’ll not only be in the hands of experienced specialists—you’ll be in the hands of experts who share your passion for sports. We’re avid fans, so we know just how important it is to get you moving again. Our specialists routinely provide high level treatment to athletes—including those in the New York Islanders, New York Jets, Long Island Ducks, New York Lizards, Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy, and multiple schools across the metropolitan area—and treat athletes of all ages, sports and skill levels. They have experience working with professional athletes at the height of their careers and bring the same level of care and expertise to caring for recreational athletes and “weekend warriors.”
As part of Northwell Health, the largest health system in New York, we also have direct access to numerous other subspecialties including imaging, neurology, physiatry, women’s health, ophthalmology and rheumatology.
For athletic trainers and coaches
Our sports medicine specialists work with coaches and athletic trainers of local high school and college teams to keep young athletes strong and healthy—through medical services, training, and prevention for common conditions like concussions and ACL tears. The Institute’s dedicated sports coordinator reaches beyond the walls of the hospital and into the community, high schools and club sports teams to help educate the public on injury prevention, rehabilitation, wellness and other sports-related issues.
