STATEN ISLAND, NY —
Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) Executive Director Brahim Ardolic, MD, issued the following statement regarding the tentative contract agreement reached today with the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), which represents about 1,200 unionized nurses at SIUH's North site.
"After nearly a year of good-faith negotiations, I'm pleased to report that Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) and the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) reached a tentative agreement today on a new three-year contract, avoiding a strike planned for July 3. A ratification vote on the proposed collective bargaining agreement will take place Thursday and Friday.
"The tentative agreement is fair to the hospital and our nurses, providing them with competitive salary increases and benefit enhancements that promote their health and wellness. The proposed contract also reaffirms SIUH's ongoing commitment to appropriate staffing levels that ensure our patients will continue to receive safe, high-quality care and enable the hospital to expand its clinical services to meet future community needs."
