has created a private setting where joint replacement patients can recover and receive care after surgery.
“Having private rooms allows a patient’s family member or caregiver to more comfortably and actively participate in their care, which is particularly helpful in the patient’s transition to home,” said Lenny Nartowicz, deputy executive director of Southside Hospital. “This also allows the patient’s care to be more individually tailored to them.”
Each of the nine rooms dedicated to joint replacement patients has features meant to enhance care, including the Nightingale phone, which allows patients to contact a nurse with only the push of a button. There are more technological advances anticipated to be coming within the year to this new unit.
Southside Hospital’s total joint replacement program has been recognized by the Joint Commission for its high-quality patient care since 2016. The Northwell Health Orthopaedic Institute at Southside also provides care for patients who have experienced a fracture or trauma as well as need care in the areas of foot and ankle; shoulder and elbow; spine; hand and wrist; and sports medicine.
