NEW YORK —
Northwell Health today announced appointments to senior leadership positions at Lenox Hill Hospital and its newly developed and expanded Western Region, which includes all Northwell Health facilities in Manhattan, Staten Island and Westchester County.
Effective January 1st, Joseph Schulman, senior vice president and executive director of Northwell's Southwest Region (Staten Island) and deputy executive director of the health system's existing Northwest Region (Manhattan and Westchester), will become executive director of Northwell's new Western Region, which includes: Lenox Hill Hospital, Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital, Lenox Health Greenwich Village, Phelps Hospital, Northern Westchester Hospital and Staten Island University Hospital.
In addition, Jill Kalman, MD, will assume the executive director role at Lenox Hill Hospital after serving as the hospital's medical director since 2015 – and regional medical director in Manhattan for the past year. She will continue to serve as the health system's medical director of patient experience.
Mr. Schulman and Dr. Kalman succeed Dennis Connors as executive director of the region and Lenox Hill Hospital, where he has worked since 2012. He is retiring in April after more than 32 years with Northwell Health, where he has distinguished himself in numerous leadership positions.
Succeeding Dr. Kalman as medical director at Lenox Hill Hospital is Daniel Baker, MD, who was appointed associate medical director there in October after serving as the hospital's vice chair of emergency medicine since 2013.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Schulman was instrumental in helping lead Northwell's population health efforts, serving as executive director of Northwell Health Solutions. Co-established by Mr. Schulman in late 2013, Health Solutions is the health system's care management entity, responsible for the management, implementation and performance of the health system's population health portfolio. He joined the health system in 2002 as corporate director of internal audit services and he later served as chief financial officer and executive director at Zucker Hillside Hospital.
Recognized as an expert in congestive heart failure, Dr. Kalman joined Northwell in 2014 as associate medical director in the office of Northwell's Chief Medical Officer David Battinelli, MD, and as the associate medical director at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Prior to Northwell, she started and developed the Heart Failure Program at Beth Israel Medical Center. She also was director of the Cardiomyopathy Program at Mount Sinai and Tisch Hospital, where she also served as chief of cardiac services.
Dr. Baker joined Lenox Hill in 2007 as an attending emergency medicine physician. Over the past decade, he has served in several other leadership roles of progressive responsibility. In 2016, Daniel was elected as a regional representative for the Northwell Health Physician Partners Board of Governors and was appointed the physician lead liaison of Sunrise Emergency Care Development for Northwell's emergency medicine service line. He will continue as assistant professor of emergency medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
