Michael I. Schwartz has been named Chair of the Board of Trustees of Northern Westchester Hospital
. The announcement was made by outgoing Board Chair, Nancy Karch.
"Mr. Schwartz has been a dedicated member of Northern Westchester Hospital's board since 2013, most recently as the Board's Vice Co-Chair," said Ms. Karch. "His expertise in areas that include investment, law and business strengthens the Board and its ability to make critical decisions to address the needs of the community at a time when the health care landscape is especially complex."
Mr. Schwartz is a private investor who was previously a principal and portfolio manager at Taconic Capital Advisors LP, a New York-based hedge fund focused on event driven investing. At Taconic, Mr. Schwartz was primarily responsible for the company's merger arbitrage portfolio and other equity event-driven investments, including activist investing. He also helped establish and oversee Taconic's Hong Kong office and Asian investing effort.
Mr. Schwartz spent more than a decade at Taconic after joining the firm as a research associate in February 2004; he became a principal in January 2006. Prior to that, Mr. Schwartz spent four years an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, where he specialized in mergers and acquisitions, and securities law.
Mr. Schwartz graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in history and science from Harvard University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and received a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1999.
He is a resident of Chappaqua, NY, where he lives with his wife Jodi and their three sons, Ryan, Caden, and Jesse. In his spare time, Michael is an avid golfer.
