John Boockvar, MD, vice chair, department of neurosurgery at Lenox Hill Hospital (LHH), has been appointed as an elected member of the Society of Neurological Surgeons (SNS).
The SNS, comprised of neurosurgical department chairs, residency program directors and other senior educational leaders, is the oldest neurosurgical professional organization in the world. Its principal mission is the design of curriculum and implementation of neurosurgical residency and fellowship education in North America.
Dr. Boockvar is internationally known for his surgical expertise in primary and metastatic brain tumors, meningiomas, pituitary tumors, acoustic neuromas, spinal and peripheral nerve sheath tumors, skull base and endoscopic surgery, minimally invasive spinal surgery and complex spinal disorders.
In addition to his role as vice chair of neurosurgery, Dr. Boockvar is also director of the Brain Tumor and Pituitary/Neuroendocrine Centers at LHH and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital; investigator of the Laboratory for Brain Tumor Biology at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research; and, professor of neurosurgery and otolaryngology/head and neck surgery at the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine.
