Nearly $18K in collected plastic bag fees go to hospital initiatives

HUNTINGTON, NY —

Charles Reichert, owner of IGA supermarkets, has donated the five-cent plastic bag fees from Fort Salonga and East Northport stores to Huntington Hospital.

The total collected in 2018 – $17,810 -- will help bolster Huntington Hospital’s newly-opened Center for Mothers and Babies, which includes 19 private rooms for mothers and their babies complete with sleeper sofas for a significant other.

Mr. Reichert and wife, Helen, have been major donors to Huntington Hospital and Northwell Health, including gifts toward the Huntington Hospital Center for Mothers and Babies and Northwell Health Reichert Family Imaging at Huntington.
