HUNTINGTON, NY —
Huntington Hospital has received its fourth Joint Commission gold seal of approval for its hip and knee replacement programs.
To achieve this re-accreditation, Huntington Hospital participated in a voluntary site review that demonstrated its staff continues to meet the stringent standards of the Joint Commission. This accreditation lasts for two years. After Huntington Hospital's site review, in an unprecedented result, The Joint Commission found no areas of the knee and hip replacement programs that needed improvement.
The teams involved in helping Huntington Hospital achieve this re-accreditation include orthopaedics, anesthesia, physical therapy, anticoagulation services, pharmacy and nursing.
"It's important for our community to know that when they need a hip or knee replacement they can get top-notch care at their local hospital," said James Gurtowski, MD, chairman of orthopaedics at Huntington Hospital. "Having this procedure done close to home and seeking physical therapy and other rehabilitation services in a convenient location can help make a patient's recovery much better and easier."
The Joint Commission, based in Oak Brook, IL, is a not-for-profit group involved in certifying hospitals for the quality of their services.
