Healthgrades names North Shore University Hospital among top five percent of US hospitals for superior outcomes in heart bypass, valve surgery

MANHASSET, NY —

North Shore University Hospital (NSUH), home to the Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital, has been named one of America's 50 Best Hospitals for cardiac surgery in consecutive years (2017 and 2018) by Healthgrades, in recognition of being among the top five percent of all U.S. hospitals for superior outcomes in heart bypass and heart valve surgery.

Healthgrades, an independent group that analyzes hospital quality measures and the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, named NSUH among America's Best Hospitals for cardiac surgery, coronary intervention and gastrointestinal care.

NSUH has received the Stroke Care Excellence Award for the past seven years (2012-2018). The award recognizes hospitals for superior outcomes in the care and treatment of stroke. NSUH is the first hospital on Long Island to receive the Joint Commission's advanced certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, is recognized for its comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted to the emergency department.

The hospital was also named among America's 100 Best Hospitals for coronary intervention for three consecutive years (2016-2018), among America's 100 Best Hospitals for Gastrointestinal Care in 2018, and was named among the top five percent of all U.S. hospitals for care in these areas. The Coronary Intervention Award recognizes hospitals for outstanding outcomes in coronary intervention procedures.

The Gastrointestinal Care Award recognizes hospitals for outstanding outcomes in bowel obstruction treatment, colorectal surgeries, gallbladder removal, esophageal/stomach surgeries, treatment of gastrointestinal bleeds and pancreatitis, as well as small intestine surgeries.
