NEW YORK, NY —
Lenox Hill Hospital has been designated one of America's 100 Best Hospitals™ for providing the highest quality of care and consistently achieving superior clinical outcomes across the majority of common inpatient conditions and procedures. It is the only hospital in New York City to receive the honor in 2018.
In addition to being listed among the top two percent of all hospitals in the nation for two consecutive years (2017 and 2018), Lenox Hill also received the "Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence" for the past five years (2014-2018). Distinguished hospital honorees stand out above the rest because they consistently deliver comprehensive, high-quality care and perform in the top five percent nationally for overall clinical excellence.
The hospital was also recognized among America's 100 Best Hospitals for exceptional outcomes in six specific clinical areas for three consecutive years (2016-2018):
- Cardiac Care: Including heart bypass surgery, coronary interventional procedures, heart attack treatment, heart failure treatment and heart valve surgery
- Gastrointestinal Care: Including bowel obstruction treatment, colorectal surgeries, gallbladder removal, esophageal/stomach surgeries, treatment of gastrointestinal bleeds, treatment for pancreatitis and small intestine surgeries
- General Surgery: Including bowel obstruction treatment, colorectal surgeries, gallbladder removal, esophageal/stomach surgeries and small intestine surgeries
- Prostate Surgery: Including prostate removal surgery and transurethral resection of the prostate
- Coronary Intervention procedures
- Stroke Care
Furthermore, Lenox Hill received Excellence Awards in three additional clinical areas for four consecutive years (2015-2018):
- Cranial Neurosurgery
- Neurosciences, which include stroke care and neurosurgery
- Critical Care, which includes pulmonary embolism treatment, respiratory failure treatment, treatment of sepsis and treatment of diabetic emergencies
Patients who have treatments or surgeries at these nationally recognized medical centers have a lower risk of dying and/or experiencing complications during their hospital stays according to Healthgrades. The analysis further indicates that these hospitals outperformed their competitors in treating a core group of conditions that account for more than 80 percent of deaths.
"It is an immense honor to be recognized as one of the nation's best hospitals and to be the only New York City hospital to receive that prestigious distinction" said Jill Kalman, MD, the hospital's executive director. "Lenox Hill's Healthgrades awards underpin our hospital's unwavering dedication to achieving superior clinical outcomes and providing an exceptional level of care to our patients."
Healthgrades is an independent group that analyzes hospital quality measures and is the leading online patient resource for comprehensive information about hospitals and physicians. To determine its annual America's Best Hospital rankings, the organization uses Medicare inpatient data to evaluate an array of treatments and procedures and to identify the hospitals with outstanding quality of care and clinical performance.
