Auxiliary of Lenox Hill highlights heart health at Annual Benefit

The Auxiliary of Lenox Hill Hospital held its Annual Benefit on April 23rd at The Yale Club of New York. This year's event – Matters of the Heart: The Food & Heart Health Connection – put a special emphasis on the vital link between nutrition and cardiac health through a fun, interactive and educational evening.

Guests entered a Food Network-inspired ballroom and enjoyed a live cooking demonstration during which Michelin Star Northwell Health Executive Chef Bruno Tison and award-winning chef and wellness authority, Seamus Mullen prepared original recipes that were then served to all in attendance.

In line with the night's heart-focused theme, cardiac experts and honorary co-chairs – Jill Kalman, MD, cardiologist and executive director of Lenox Hill Hospital, and Varinder Singh, MD, chairman of cardiovascular services at Lenox Hill, participated in a lively discussion with the audience on heart health during the culinary demonstration.

The evening was moderated by Tara Narula, MD, CBS News national medical correspondent and associate director of the Cardiac Care Unit at Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr. Narula asked each chef to talk about their backgrounds, how they became interested in cooking and their commitment to healthy food preparation.

The Annual Benefit helps The Auxiliary of Lenox Hill Hospital raise monies for the hospital, its patients and community through support of Appropriations and other programs. This year, the Auxiliary has funded 18 Appropriations that benefit Nursing, the Emergency Department and Cardiac Health among others across Lenox Hill Hospital, Lenox Health Greenwich Village and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital.
