NEW HYDE PARK, NY —
Fourteen Northwell Health hospitals have earned the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The designation recognizes each health care facility for its commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted guidelines.
To receive the Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, each hospital achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all stroke achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month periods and attained 75 percent or higher compliance with five of eight Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality measures. These measures include aggressive use of medications, such as tissue plasminogen activator (or tPA, a clot-busting drug), antithrombotics and anticoagulation therapy, cholesterol-reducing drugs and smoking cessation counseling. All of those protocols are aimed at reducing death and disability while improving the lives of stroke patients.
The 14 Northwell Health hospitals to earn the Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award are: Glen Cove Hospital, Huntington Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital, Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center, Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Forest Hills, Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Valley Stream, North Shore University Hospital (NSUH), Northern Westchester Hospital, Peconic Bay Medical Center, Phelps Hospital, Plainview Hospital, Southside Hospital, Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) and Syosset Hospital.
In addition, Northern Westchester Hospital, Phelps Hospital, Southside Hospital and SIUH received "Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll" recognition. Huntington Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital, LIJ Medical Center, LIJ Forest Hills, LIJ Valley Stream, NSUH, Peconic Bay Medical Center, Plainview Hospital and Syosset Hospital achieved "Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite" status.
