A wide range of comprehensive services

Our region’s growing population of people with liver-related conditions is underserved, and there is a shortage of providers nationwide. We address this challenge by providing an all-inclusive hepatology center for our patients, which offers a large number of diagnostic and therapeutic services.

The Sandra Atlas Bass Center for Liver Diseases at Northwell Health serves as the hub for satellite practices throughout our region. The division is expanding screening and prevention programs and extending care to people who may be at risk. In the first quarter of 2019, we expect to launch the first liver transplant program on Long Island. More than 20 clinical trials are in progress—some exploring the margins where diseases of the liver intersect with other diseases.

Clinical practice

The Division of Hepatology provides medical, procedural and pre- and post-transplantation services to patients with all diseases of the liver. Our faculty members are actively involved in clinical and outcomes research and collaborate with regional institutions and practices. They treat patients with a wide range of liver diseases, including liver cancer, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, hereditary liver disease, drug-induced liver disease and cirrhosis. They also treat those in need of liver transplantation.

Additionally, our division provides inpatient consultative services at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
