Sleeve resection

Sleeve resection

A sleeve resection is the removal of part of the bronchus (the passage of airway that brings air to the lungs) with the lung tissue. After the procedure, the lung is reattached to the remaining part of the bronchus.

This surgery is sometimes used if the cancer is in the bronchus near where it enters the lung. This allows the surgeon to remove the cancer without having to remove the whole lung.
