Salpingo-oophorectomy

Salpingo-oophorectomy

A salpingo-oophorectomy is the surgical removal of one (unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy) or both (bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy) fallopian tubes and ovaries. Nearby lymph nodes and part of the vagina may also be removed.

The unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy procedure, used when the cancer has only spread to one ovary, enables the patient to attempt pregnancy after treatment.
