Resective Epilepsy Surgery
If medication and noninvasive surgical options are not helping your epilepsy symptoms, your doctor may recommend resective epilepsy surgery. It may seem overwhelming to consider brain surgery, but this option can be a very effective treatment that will help eliminate your seizures.
Your medical team will work together to identify the areas of your brain that are producing your seizure and will use maps and imaging to avoid harming areas of your brain that are important for movement, vision, memory, language and sensation.
You will be under general anesthesia during the surgery, and your team will use advanced techniques to navigate to the damaged tissue while avoiding healthy tissue. The doctors will remove the tissue as needed, and a successful outcome is seizure elimination.
