Sometimes, surgery isn’t the recommended treatment for a brain tumor. Your doctor may decide that your tumor will respond better to radiosurgical treatment, which is a recommended course for some skull base brain tumors.
Your doctor will evaluate the type, size and location of the tumor, and will also consider your age and medical conditions before deciding whether radiosurgery is recommended instead of surgical removal.
If you have radiosurgery, you’ll receive a single, high dose of radiation to a specific area. Radiosurgery as a brain tumor treatment is done as an outpatient procedure.
