Penectomy

Penectomy

A penectomy is the surgical removal of all or part of the penis. In order to cut out a penile tumor and some surrounding tissue to ensure all disease is removed, one option is a partial penectomy, in which part of the penis is removed. In a total penectomy, the whole penis is removed.

Penectomies are only necessary when cancerous tumors are caught later in their growth, and are avoided whenever possible.
