Post-remission therapy

Once a cancer is in remission, post-remission therapy is additional chemotherapy that is given kill any remaining cancer cells that may not be active but could begin to regrow and cause a relapse. This phase is also called remission continuation, consolidation or intensification therapy.

Younger patients typically get more intensive chemotherapy for several cycles or a stem cell transplant. Older patients may get slightly less intensive treatment.
