Novalis® stereotactic radiation therapy
The Novalis® system is a state-of-the-art treatment device for patients undergoing stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). During treatment, the system’s linear accelerator steadily moves around the patient’s head so that the radiation targets the tumor or lesion from different angles. This delivers the radiation dose to the tumor while minimizing radiation to the unaffected surrounding areas.
Novalis’ sophisticated software and Northwell Health’s extraordinarily experienced medical physicians work closely with the team of radiation oncologists and neurosurgeons to determine the ideal beam delivery pathways to the target and to calculate, check, and recheck a definitive treatment plan. All brain and spine treatments are done on an outpatient basis by a multidisciplinary team that includes a neurosurgeon, radiation oncologist, medical physicist, radiation therapists and a dedicated nurse.
