Lymph node biopsy
During a lymph node biopsy, also known as lymph node removal, the doctor removes one or more lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are small glands that make white blood cells. The white blood cells fight infection. Lymph nodea may also trap germs that are causing infection. Cancer often spreads to the lymph nodes.
The lymph node tissue sample is then examined by microscope for signs that cancer has spread, or metastasized.
