Occipital Nerve Blocks

Chronic pain from headaches can be debilitating. If you are suffering from frequent headaches, we can assist you by performing a full evaluation to understand what may be causing your pain and recommending the best treatments.

One pain management treatment for specific types of headaches is an occipital nerve block. Your occipital nerve is located in the back of your head, just above your neck at the base of your skull. This nerve can be the source of severe migraine headaches or may worsen the condition.  Blocking this nerve may assist in decreasing pain and prevent your headaches. Your doctor will inject lidocaine, steroids or other medication around the nerve.  . This is an outpatient procedure that has few complications and can help immediately with reducing disabling pain.
