Cerebral Edema

Cerebral edema is an accumulation of water in the spaces of the brain. This condition can be brought on by head trauma, stroke or other condition. This is a potentially life-threatening condition that requires early detection and rapid treatment.

If you’ve suffered a head injury, you will be evaluated for cerebral edema. Treatments are focused on getting rid of the excess fluid in the brain, relieving the pressure in the skull and preventing a recurrence. In severe cases, surgery is required to relieve the pressure and take out the excess fluid.
