Our Center for Young Adult, Adolescent and Pediatric HIV at Cohen Children's Medical Center provides comprehensive care to young adults and adolescents up to age 24 who are HIV infected, or at risk of acquiring HIV. Along with state-of-the-art medical care, we offer psychological, emotional, social and educational/vocational support to help LGBT youth lead fulfilling and independent lives. We give them the tools they need to reduce their risk, get proper treatment if needed and make healthy decisions. We're proud to be a leader in HIV prevention on Long Island through our novel collaboration with Pride for Youth, which provides low threshold medical care to serve the needs of the young LGBT community.
Our Center for Aids Research and Treatment (CART) is the largest New York state-designated AIDS Center on Long Island and provides exceptional primary care to HIV-infected individuals. A board-certified infectious disease specialist and nurse case manager are assigned to each patient to provide the very best treatment. Round the clock service is provided for both emergency room visits and inpatient management of more severe disease.
Our Retroviral Disease Center at Lenox Hill Hospital offers:

- Comprehensive services for HIV/AIDS (by providers licensed and credentialed as HIV specialists), sexually transmitted infections, hepatitis C, HCV
- Nutrition services
- Full suite of specialist referrals, many providing care directly on site
- HIV screening and testing, including post exposure prophylaxis for appropriate individuals
- Intensive social work services
- Mental health and psychosocial services
- Screening, management and treatment of hepatitis C
- Screening, management and treatment of sexually transmitted infection (STI)
- Substance abuse interventions
At Northwell Health, we understand that the transgender community is diverse with very specific needs and challenges. That's why our Center for Transgender Care was founded in 2016. It provides multispecialty, culturally sensitive care for the transgender and gender non-conforming community in our region. This comprehensive care meets the health needs of patients at various ages and stages of the transitioning process.
The Center offers primary care (including routine physicals), immunization, HIV prevention (PrEP) and treatment, screening for sexually transmitted infections and endocrine care (evaluation and treatment with hormone replacement therapy or puberty blockers). Our experienced mental health clinicians provide psychotherapy around gender transition issues, health and sexuality education, risk reduction counseling, and surgical specialty care for gender affirming surgery (i.e., transitioning). This includes a plastic surgeon, breast surgeon and urologic care.
Comprehensive transgender care has also been provided at Lenox Hill Hospital's Retroviral Disease Center for over five years now. It offers full primary care, hormones, a full-time social worker and a staff psychiatrist. We arrange Medicaid/insurance coverage, give referrals to transgender friendly providers and have a transgender friendly office.
Our community advisory board aims to engage the community and listen to the voice of our patients. We continue to grow and expand our expertise and services, because caring for the transgender community is important to us.
When it comes to starting a family, we understand that the LGBT community has unique needs and challenges. The renowned fertility specialists at Northwell Health are here to assist same sex couples achieve their dreams of parenthood by offering a variety of fertility options for the LGBT community.
