Botulism treatment

Botulism is a serious illness, and you will need to be hospitalized for treatment.

Infectious disease specialists may recommend one or more of the following treatment options:

  • Botulism antitoxin injections to fight the toxin or bacteria
  • Ventilator or breathing tube to help ease breathing
  • Surgery of infected wounds with follow-up antibiotics
  • Feeding tube or intravenous fluids for patients who have difficulty swallowing
