Flow cytometry

Flow cytometry

Flow cytometry is a lab test that measures the number of cells in a sample, the percentage of live cells, their size and shape and the presence of tumor markers on the cell surface. The doctor uses fluorescent antibodies on a biopsy sample and then passes them in front of a laser beam. The laser causes the cells to give off light of different colors, which can be detected with a special machine.

The results can help in cancer diagnosis and classification.
