Arthritis pain can be chronic and difficult to treat. Your spinal joints, known as facet joints, can feel particularly painful if you experience arthritis in this area.
Arthritis causes inflammation around these small joints, and that’s what causes the pain. Your doctor may recommend facet injections to help diminish your pain. Facet injections target back pain with anti-inflammatory steroid medication. A specially trained physician will use an X-ray technique, called fluoroscopic guidance, to pinpoint the right areas of your spine for the injections. As the anti-inflammatory medication begins to work, you should start to feel a reduction in pain. Facet injections are an outpatient procedure.
