Back pain is sometimes the result of a herniated disk or a pinched nerve. Your healthcare team will evaluate the type of back pain that you have, and may recommend a treatment or combination of treatments. One option your doctor may want to pursue is epidural injections.
This is a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure. You may receive a numbing injection or medication to help you get through the procedure. Your doctor, who is specifically trained to perform this technique, will use X-ray guidance to locate the affected area and deliver an injection of anti-inflammatory medication such as cortisone near the nerve. The medication will reduce inflammation with the goal of decreasing the pain you are experiencing.
