Family support is crucial to ensuring that individuals with psychosis get proper evaluation and appropriate care. When a young person develops a psychotic illness, families are often bewildered, confused, and frightened. They may not know what to do and may not seek treatment until symptoms become very severe. The longer symptoms progress without care, the harder it is to fully recover.
Families can best help their child by getting an expert evaluation as soon as possible. Getting the best possible care early on is the core mission of the Early Treatment Program.
At the ETP, the treatment team, the client and the family work together to create an individualized treatment strategy and care plan. Part of that process is helping families cultivate the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to effectively support their child's progress and recovery.
