Dr. Thomas McGinn, MD, MPH is Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the North Shore-LIJ Health System Medicine Service Line and serves the Zucker School of Medicine as Chair of the Department of Medicine. He is an Investigator at the Herman Merinoff Center for Patient Oriented Research at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research. 

For over 15 years, Dr. McGinn has taught, researched and worked in the area of academic general internal medicine with a focus on providing high quality health care in urban communities. Dr. McGinn is committed to bolstering the Department’s educational enterprises by mentoring and promoting physician-scientist/educators, supporting the innovative ideas, and research stemming from the talented young minds of tomorrow’s healthcare leaders. As a principal investigator or co-investigator on several NIH, state, and foundation funded grants, Dr. McGinn is an expert on evidence-based medicine (EBM), comparative effectiveness, and medical education. Dr. McGinn is author of the CPRs chapter of the highly regarded JAMA series Users’ Guides to the Medical Literature, considered the gold-standard text in the area of EBM. He has published nearly 100 articles with focus on clinical prediction of risk and decision-making in primary care.
