Corpus Callosotomy

Corpus Callosotomy

Sometimes, epilepsy can cause frequent and very severe seizures, putting you at risk for falls and injury.

If medication and noninvasive treatments have not worked, and you are not a candidate for resective epilepsy surgery, your treatment team may recommend corpus callosotomy. In this procedure, the two sides of the brain are disconnected in order to eliminate seizures. While it is a serious procedure, it has been very effective in reducing seizures and improving quality of life for patients who have severe epilepsy.
