Vocational rehabilitation services

Vocational rehabilitation services are designed to help people with disabilities enjoy a stable return to the workforce and the community.

Vocational rehabilitation services include comprehensive prevocational and vocational programs, supported employment, and job coaching. Services help patients address their vocational, educational, and social goals to facilitate recovery and a stable return to the workforce and community.

Examples of vocational rehabilitation services:
Supported employment is paid, competitive employment in an integrated setting with ongoing support for individuals with the most severe disabilities, for whom competitive employment has not traditionally been an option, and who, because of the nature and severity of their disability, need ongoing support services in order to obtain, perform, and retain their job. Supported employment provides assistance such as job coaching and job placement, assistance in interacting with employers, on-site assistive technology training, specialized job training, and individually tailored supervision.

Unified contract services are community-based evaluation, training, and placement vocational rehabilitation services. These services are provided to those who qualify for Adult Care and Continuing Education Services - Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR), which is a system established by the New York State Board of Regents to provide continuing educational and employment opportunities to adults with disabilities.
