Interpersonal and social rhythm therapy

Interpersonal and social rhythm therapy (IPSRT) is an evidence based approach to the treatment of bipolar disorder. It is based on the principles of interpersonal psychotherapy, an evidence based treatment for unipolar depression.

IPSRT addresses both the environmental contribution to mood instability and the biological vulnerability in the circadian system that is thought to characterize individuals with biolar disorder and it helps individuals identify interpersonal stressors and changes in social routines that can trigger shifts in mood.  Research suggests that minimizing interpersonal stress and stabilizing daily routines can delay the onset of mood episodes.
