About us

There are only two non-invasive vascular laboratories in New York City accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission.  One of them is here at Staten Island University Hospital, where you can be tested painlessly for most vascular issues within 20 minutes with no needles, X-rays or dyes.

That’s just one of the ways our Division of Vascular Surgery is making life better for people with diseases and conditions of the arteries, veins and lymphatic system.  We offer complete, patient-centered care from your initial visit to post-treatment care.

Overview

There are many conditions that can affect and hamper the circulatory system of the body.  These include an elevated cholesterol level, hypertension, diabetes or a traumatic injury.  Vascular conditions can affect people of any age, but they happen most often to people over the age of 50.

Our team of board-certified surgeons is expert in diagnosing and treating all forms of vascular problems.  Using state-of-the-art equipment and methods, they create a personalized treatment plan.  And although they are surgeons, a majority of the patients they see are treated non-surgically, using medication and lifestyle changes with careful follow-up monitoring.

If it’s determined that surgery is your best option, we use the latest minimally invasive techniques -- including endovascular surgery – to reduce your risk of complications and recovery time.

Conditions

Common conditions we treat include:

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysms
  • Thoracic aortic aneurysms
  • Carotid artery disease
  • Peripheral arterial disease (PAD or PVD)
  • Renal and mesenteric artery disease
  • Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and venous ulcers
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
  • Superficial thrombophlebitis
  • Varicose veins

Leading the way forward

We are leading the way toward new and better treatment of vascular disease:

  • All our vascular surgeons are involved in ongoing clinical research programs.  These programs help create improved methods of understanding, detecting and treating vascular disease.
  • Each year we host a multidisciplinary educational symposium on the latest advancements in amputation prevention and wound management.  Visit the L.E.A.P.S. (Lower Extremity Amputation Prevention Symposium) website for more information and to register.
  • We are training the leading vascular surgeons of the future through our vascular surgery fellowship, a two-year comprehensive training program in vascular and endovascular surgery.
