Nalitt Institute for Cancer and Blood-Related Diseases at Staten Island University Hospital

Groundbreaking treatment for blood disorders and cancer on Staten Island

Staten Island University Hospital's Nalitt Institute for Cancer and Blood-Related Diseases offers specialized, patient-centered care in hematology (blood disorders) and oncology, with the most innovative, comprehensive and personalized treatments available.

Dedicated to defeating blood disorders and cancer

The hematology and medical oncology division is a key part of our work at the Nalitt Institute for Cancer and Blood-Related Diseases. The division specializes in blood-based diseases like iron deficiency anemia, sickle cell disease, and hemophilia; familiar cancers like the thalassemias, leukemias, and lymphomas; and other types of cancers throughout the body.

Aside from furthering your treatments for an already-diagnosed condition, your primary physician might refer you to a specialist in oncology and hematology for an unexplained infection, bleeding or clotting issues, a lower-than-normal red blood cell count, or presence of blood clots in the leg or lung. (Because the two areas are so interrelated, many blood and cancer specialists are, in fact, trained in both oncology and hematology.)

Our medical oncologists and hematologists have studied at the nation's premier teaching cancer centers, such as the National Cancer Institute, Harvard and Duke Universities, and the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Under their care, you can take advantage of the very latest in chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and hormonal and biological therapies available today—including the option to participate in groundbreaking clinical trials.

A model facility for cancer treatment

At the Nalitt Institute for Cancer and Blood-Related Diseases, our multidisciplinary team of skilled physicians includes hematologists and oncologists, oncology-certified nurses, nurse navigators to help coordinate your individual treatment program, and an oncology support system of social workers, nutrition counselors, psychiatric staff, and on-site professionals who will help you work through the financial components of care. At every level, our goal is to make you feel better and live better. It's because we take this 360-degree, patient-centered approach to treating cancer and blood disorders that the New York State Department of Health has called the Nalitt Institute a “model facility."

We are located at Staten Island University Hospital's North Campus, where we offer advanced treatments including specialized surgical services such as stereotactic radiosurgery, radiation oncology including seed therapy for prostate cancers (brachytherapy), and many other cancer treatments.
