About us

Staten Island is the fastest growing borough in New York City, and the south shore is leading the way. Fully equipped to serve this growing population, our south site emergency department has treated more than 33,000 patients in a single year. We are committed to providing quality care with very short wait times.

Short wait times

When you visit an emergency room, you expect immediate treatment, even if your condition isn't life-threatening. At Staten Island University Hospital, we are proud to keep our wait times to below 20 minutes for most patients. (According to the American College of Emergency Physicians, the national average is more than four hours). Our emergency services are available 24 hours a day.

Fully equipped emergency department

We are equipped to handle traumatic accidents and behavioral health issues, as well as other emergencies. We have 27 patient treatment rooms in our 8,700 square foot department. Our facility is fully accredited by the Joint Commission and designated as a Stroke Center by the AHA. Both our south and north campus emergency departments are able to receive 911 patients. We resuscitate, evaluate and stabilize patients presenting with acute injuries and illnesses.
