The Emergency Medicine Department at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills in Queens, NY, sees approximately 50,000 patients per year in one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the nation. We treat all types of acute conditions and traumatic injuries.

Our department is staffed with emergency medicine residency-trained, board-certified physicians. Our registered nurses are certified in emergency and trauma care. For patients requiring more advanced cardiac, neurosurgical or pediatric care, we have the ability to stabilize and transfer them to our tertiary facilities at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset or Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park. 

Long Island Jewish Forest Hills provides a full range of services, including orthopaedics, wound care, pain management, obstetrics and gynecology, hospice and ambulatory surgery. The hospital maintains a hospitalist program and has an ICU Intensivist available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our services

Our Emergency Medicine Department offers a variety of state-of-the-art services to provide the optimal patient experience:

  • Stroke center certified by New York state – The Emergency Medicine Department at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills has the most advanced training, personnel and equipment to provide state-of-the-art care to patients suffering from ischemic strokes (the most common type) and hemorrhagic strokes. Receiving expert treatment for strokes can mean the difference between life and death.
    • Forest Hills Hospital is one of multiple hospitals in Northwell Health to receive the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Quality Achievement Awards. The awards recognize the hospitals' commitment and successes in implementing a higher standard of stroke care to ensure that stroke patients receive treatment in accordance with the latest evidence-based guidelines.
  • AHA-certified heart station – We have the ability to treat all types of acute coronary syndromes with all clot-buster drugs available. We consistently meet the American Heart Association recommendations for delivering the drug to patients with acute myocardial infarctions within 30 minutes. 
  • Separate fast track unit – The fast track unit of the Emergency Medicine Department at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills allows patients with minor illnesses or injuries to be treated rapidly in an environment appropriate to the severity of their illness. Open daily from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m., our seven-bed unit is staffed by attending emergency physicians.  
  • Advanced emergency observation unit – The observation unit is for patients who require extended care that does not necessitate a prolonged inpatient hospital admission.
  • 911 receiving hospital – The Emergency Department is a 911 receiving hospital for both police and voluntary ambulance services in Queens County and FDNY from New York City.
  • Two separate entrances– One entrance is for walk-in patients, and the other entrance is for those arriving by ambulance. Separate triage at each entrance expedites access to care.
  • Bedside registration – This is to speed access to care and enhance patient privacy.
  • Updated cardiac monitors and centralized telemetry monitoring are on hand.
  • State-of-the-art ultrasound machine is dedicated to the emergency department.
