The Department of Plastic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital performs a wide range of reconstructive and cosmetic procedures for both adults and children. Microvascular surgery is a surgical technique that uses the operating microscope, microsurgical instruments and micro-sutures to repair blood vessels and nerves, and to transplant bone, skin or tissue from one part of your body to another. 

While best known for emergency replantation, microsurgical procedures are used to reconstruct:

  • Breast (DIEP flap, perforator flap)
  • Exposed fractures and orthopaedic hardware (muscle transplant)
  • Facial paralysis (muscle and nerve transplants)
  • Jaw (fibular flap)
  • Missing arm or leg bone (fibula flap)
