The Department of Orthopaedics at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills has an extensive network of physicians who specialize in the following areas:
Joint replacement education
On Thursday mornings, the joint replacement team welcomes new patients and their families to participate in a pre-operative patient education seminar. The team, which includes patient liaisons, physical therapists, discharge planners and the pain management team, prepare patients for their upcoming surgeries and rehabilitation. The class guides patients through pre-surgical preparations and provides post-surgical rehabilitation recommendations including an extensive sub-acute rehabilitation site listing. Patients are encouraged to ask questions and express their concerns throughout the seminar. The day after patients receive their new prosthesis, the rehabilitation process begins with a physical therapy evaluation and treatment session. Following total joint replacement surgery, patients receive physical therapy seven days a week for gait and transfer training as well as general conditioning exercise.
