Jamie Kane, MD, Director

Dr. Jamie Kane is board certified in Internal Medicine and is a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and an M.D. from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine prior to completing his residency training in Internal Medicine at Yale University. In addition to being the director for Northwell Health’s Center for Weight Management, he is an Assistant Professor in the department of medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and serves as the chief of its section of Obesity Medicine.

Dr. Kane has previously held faculty positions at Yale University and New York University in addition to creating multiple obesity medicine programs.  He brings ten years of clinical expertise to the Center for Weight Management in both university and private practice settings.  He has long been passionate about chronic disease prevention and strongly believes individuals and communities, with the help of caring trained professionals, can make powerful changes critical to overall health and well-being.  He applies this passion to his personal life – active in competitive athletics, health-conscious cooking and eating, and mindfulness practices.  He has been called on as an expert for multiple print publications, online at HuffPostLive and as a guest lecturer for a variety of venues.

Dina Hirsch, PhD

Dr. Dina Hirsch is an NYS Licensed Psychologist who received her B.A. in Psychology from Barnard College and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Maryland at College Park. She first joined the faculty at Northwell Health in 2002 and has worked in inpatient, outpatient, and partial hospital settings, including eight years at the Eating Disorders Center.  In addition to her current role as Senior Psychologist for the Center for Weight Management, she holds an academic appointment of Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Zucker School of Medicine and has provided clinical supervision to trainees throughout her career.

Dr. Hirsch is strongly committed to teaching, developing, and providing evidence-based treatments, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and family-based treatment (FBT). She is a published author and expert in the field of eating disorders and obesity and presents her work across the country. She also has specialized training in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, which frequently co-exist with eating disorders.  Because disordered eating affects and is influenced by many aspects of physical and emotional health, she believes that a team approach is necessary to best meet the individual needs of patients in working towards creating a better quality of life.
