Cardiology at Staten Island University Hospital

About us

At Staten Island University Hospital, our Department of Cardiology nurtures heart-healthy attitudes and bodies with cardiology services. The divisions of clinical cardiology, noninvasive cardiology, invasive cardiology, and electrophysiology allow us to create a hands-on approach to heart health. We offer cardiac consultation services 24 hours a day, seven days a week on an emergent, urgent and elective basis. We also offer noninvasive testing, including exercise stress testing with and without myocardial imaging.

We offer echocardiography seven days a week. Echocardiography is often referred to as an echo or a sonogram of the heart. It is one of the most widely used, non-invasive diagnostic tools in cardiology.

Our invasive cardiology division performs more than 3,500 cardiac caths a year, and more than 1,500 angioplasties a year. If you need emergency assistance, we offer diagnostic cardiac catheterization to diagnose and treat your cardiac dilemma quickly.

Our Division of Electrophysiology is focused on the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders. In addition to electrophysiological testing, we provide urgent, emergent and routine consultations on an inpatient and outpatient basis. The electrophysiology lab uses tilt table testing with our patients along with a pacemaker follow up to make sure your heart beats correctly and in rhythm well after you leave the hospital.

The Department of Cardiology also connects patients with cardiac clinics at the Medical Arts Pavilion as well as a clinic in Brooklyn.

Quality improvement

We seek to improve our cardiology services through our multiple ongoing quality enhancement programs. The major programs involve those of ischemic heart disease and congestive heart failure. Our dedicated case managers, using IPRO and JCAHO quality standards, monitor these programs and routinely file reports to the department of medicine to make further improvements and prevent future errors.

At Staten Island University Hospital, we take the time to learn about our patients to deliver specialized care. If you're experiencing heart problems, or have a history of heart problems in your family, contact us today.
