The Department of Anesthesiology at Lenox Hill Hospital includes about sixty anesthesiologists who are all certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. In addition, almost all department physicians have received fellowship training and expertise within an anesthesiology subspecialty area, including:
- Anesthesia for ambulatory surgery, cardiac surgery or neurosurgery
- Obstetric anesthesia
- Pediatric anesthesia
- Regional anesthesia and interventional pain management
The anesthesiologists practice at Lenox Hill Hospital and at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital (MEETH). All inpatient, tertiary care surgery and obstetrics services are performed at Lenox Hill Hospital and about 14,000 ambulatory surgical cases are completed annually at MEETH. At Lenox Hill, anesthesiology physicians are present 24 hours per day for surgical and obstetric patients.
For each case, the chairman of the department assigns individual anesthesiologists based on the requirements of the surgical procedure and the expectations of the surgeon and patient. To ensure collaboration and quality care, the surgeons typically work with a specific group of anesthesiologists on the majority of their patient cases.
