Zucker Hillside Hospital
Mitchell Shuwall is responsible for day-to-day operations at Zucker Hillside Hospital and plays a key role in the future development of Northwell Health’s behavioral health services.
With Zucker Hillside for more than 25 years, Mr. Shuwall has served in a variety of roles, most recently as associate executive director for quality management. Dr. Shuwall was responsible for the implementation of the behavioral health electronic health record, which has been in use for more than a decade with over 1,000 users across Zucker Hillside's behavioral health continuum.
Since 2012, he has simultaneously served as executive director of Long Island Behavioral Health Management, LLC, one of five regional Behavioral Health Organizations (BHOs) under contract with New York State to prepare for the statewide transition from fee-for-service Medicaid to managed care. In this capacity, Dr. Shuwall has been actively engaged with all inpatient mental health and substance abuse service providers in the region that are licensed by the state offices of Mental Health and Alcohol & Substance Abuse Services, and other stakeholders to improve discharge planning and identify regional needs and gaps in the behavioral health service delivery system.
Dr. Shuwall received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Long Island University.
