Through his position as chief of staff and chair of Huntington’s Hospital’s Medical Board, James Romanelli, MD, is focused on the quality and delivery of care, and development of the community hospital’s services.
Dr. Romanelli — a plastic surgeon since 1990 — oversees the medical staff at the 100-year-old hospital. He previously served as chief of surgery, where he was responsible for Huntington’s surgical quality and he helped establish several programs, including a surgical physician assistant program, the RN First Assist Program and full-time critical care physician and hospitalist programs. Dr. Romanelli also led the Surgical Care Improvement Process committee.
An assistant clinical professor of surgery at the Zucker School of Medicine, Dr. Romanelli holds several professional affiliations. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Applicants, American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Dr. Romanelli graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. He received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate, and he completed a residency in general surgery/urology at Staten Island University Hospital/SUNY Downstate. He also did a residency in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery and a fellowship in Hand Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
